The Authorities Have A Tough Time With Remote Access:

Just like most things in this world, remote access can also be utilized by criminals and internet fraudsters to commit crimes on the internet. What is worse about a crime involving remote access however is that because most of the crime is taking place on a different computer than the one which shows up as being the "criminal computer" - remote access based activities are particularly difficult to trace. This has been the case ever since remote access was launched, and to this very day it represents a major issue for authorities.

Imagine this - someone logs on to your home computer illegally because you have enabled remote access - but not been to cautious with you security. Then, they proceed to use your computer to send out hundreds of thousands of spam emails - something which is now completely illegal in America. Once the task has been completed, they log off your computer, and are never seen again.

So what are authorities trying to do about this issue? Is there actually anything that they can do? Let's find out.

Authorities & ISP's Working Together.

Possibly the only real way that this type of internet behavior can be changed is when authorities work in a partnership with ISP's. This means that authorities need to involve ISP's in the legal process of handing over any details about suspicious remote access session - almost the moment that they occur.

But does this work? So far, attempts at these "partnerships" have not been too successful. It's not because the ISP's refuse to work with the authorities. Quite the opposite actually. Internet service providers have been quite happy to help with tracking and monitoring of remote access sessions, as it can actually help them to control bandwidth costs in the long run. However the problem lies with the success of these tracking efforts.

Tracking Remote Access Session Is Difficult.

Because ISP's only have the ability to monitor what is going on with a clients internet connection - tracking the service or address from which a spammer is operating is actually not possible. Therefore, what is even more frustrating about this is that whilst the ISP and authorities can see remote access violation in real time, there is still very little they can do about it unless it originates from a domestic address.
